Los Feliz

Rancho Los Feliz was one of the first land grants in California. 6,647 acres given to Corporal Jose Vicente Feliz in 1795 for his service in the Spanish army, this area today encompasses Los Feliz and Griffith Park.

Griffith J. Griffith purchased Rancho Los Feliz in 1882 and turned it into an ostrich farm. Spooked by the ghost of Antonio Feliz, the former owner, Griffith gave 3,015 acres to the city of Los Angeles, making it one of the nation’s largest city-owned parks.

Griffith Observatory, the Greek Theater, Los Angeles Zoo, Gene Autry Museum, golf courses, hiking trails, playgrounds, pony rides and incredible views all made available to the public by the visionary real estate developer, Griffith.

Los Feliz lies just south of Griffith Park and extends from Hollywood to Silverlake. Known for independent thinkers and small business owners, the area is filled with groovy boutiques, restaurants and bars like the Dresden Room made famous by the movie ‘Swingers’.

Franklin Hills, Laughlin Park, and the Los Feliz Estates are all a stones through from Griffith Park and offer some of the areas most exclusive properties which are near its shopping center known as the Los Feliz Village.
